I've been debugging your AMI BIOS, and the ACPI support on it is far from within compliance with the standards, I've dumped out the debugging data into Canonical's Launchpad bug tracking system so that we may be able to support some sort of a workaround for the bad ACPI tables in your BIOS, I would hope that you will be part of the solution instead of the problem, alienating customers and telling them to go buy a copy of Windows Vista is not service, your product claims to be ACPI compliant and is not, therefore you are falsely advertising it with features it isn't capable of.

Catholic Compassion

It has long been common practice when hosting international events for city official’s to sweep all the homeless people off the streets. The homeless can really tarnish a city’s image. This “cleansing” has been carried out in Sydney for World Youth Day 2008, as it was for the 2007 APEC summit.

Between the two events, a trade summit for the elite and a Catholic Holy pilgrimage, as you would expect organizers for one of these two events have been far more compassionate to the homeless.

In the round up preceding APEC, the homeless were offered accommodation in motels. For WYD they have simply been marched away to a distance that is safely out of the gaze of Mr Ratzinger.

One street person claims they have been forced to relocate to unsheltered park areas. WYD Organizers in their kindness closed the city soup kitchen, moving it to a neighboring suburb.

Bishop Anthony Fisher says "the soup kitchen was moved in order to ensure the privacy of those homeless people so they're not surrounded by pilgrims, so they can eat their soup in privacy"

Pope Patrol Distracted

Usually the news is all bad but here’s a good news story that instantly perked me up.

ABC reports - Elite officer hurt guarding Pope

A police officer from the Tactical Operations Unit protecting the Pope was injured during a patrol by a piece of his own equipment, believed to be a stun-related device. He was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he has been treated for a laceration and a fractured finger.

The story was published early morning. A few hours later in a follow up article the headline "Elite officer" had been relegated to "Pope patrol officer"

With assistance from the Police Special Spin Unit, the officer's injuries had also been down graded to "minor burns" and it was now reported "he was preparing for duty"

Deputy Police Commissioner Dave Owens says the officer accidentally activated part of his equipment. He says it was a "distraction device" but will not go into further detail.

You're not wrong Dave, I bet the officer was real "distracted"

So after controlling my laughing fit, some hours later, I began to wonder how a taser gun would be capable of lacerating and fracturing a finger. A quick check and I found:

When you pull the trigger of a Taser gun, a blast of compressed nitrogen launches its two barbed darts at 55 meters per second. Each projectile has a 9-millimeter-long tip to penetrate clothing and the insulating outer layer of skin. Two whisper-thin wires trail behind for up to 9 meters, forming an electrical connection to the gun.

Ah I see, if presumably the officer had a finger covering the barrel (while a spare finger was firing the trigger) that would be quite nasty.

Tip - If you are expecting to be shot with one of these

Wrap your torso in multiple layers of heavy duty aluminum foil, between a t shirt and outer shirt. This will short the circuit, you will not be shocked. Apparently also useful in deflecting radiation from mobile phone towers.

Note - This will not work in Adelaide, the police there aim for the head

Tip No. 2 - If you are shot in Adelaide or have forgotten the shiny underwear, Stop Drop and Roll Away. This will break the thin leads from the barbs and stop the shocks instantly. You will not be able to remove the barbs by hand as you will lose most motor control after the first jolt.

U.S. Intelligence: Burundi May Be Developing Telephone

WASHINGTON — According to a report released by the Pentagon, evidence suggests that the small Central African nation of Burundi may be developing a telephone, and experts warn the country could be just 10 years away from achieving a dial tone. "If Burundi's telephone has long-distance capabilities, it will be possible for them to reach the continental United States and parts of Canada with just the push of several buttons," CIA spokesman Richard Caburn said. "Thankfully, we possess advanced caller ID technology, so if they ever decide to call, we will be prepared." The Pentagon has mailed Burundi a letter asking them to end their communications program immediately, and has not ruled out the option of a preemptive nuclear strike on the nation.

The paragraph above from the Onion News Network puts everything in perspective so clearly. It’s a far more compelling case for military action than the try hard pre justification for war with Iran crap that offended our senses all week from world media outlets, including releases from the U.S. Government.

Iran’s nuclear test firing provokes global anger

The fact is Iran produced images depicting the launch of a few missiles, conventional weapons that were in no way shape or form remotely related to anything nuclear.

The photograph of the test from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has received wide consensuses that it is a fake. U.S. officials have also raised questions about the video footage, saying it looks remarkably similar to previous tests. Iranian claims that the test included a new Shahab variant with a capable range of 1250 miles are also being refuted by analysts. See Iran missile tests used old equipment

Despite the actual facts, numerous U.S. officials made ominous remarks including the Defense Secretary Robert Gates, saying “The Iranian missiles tests illustrate the threat that the Islamic nation poses to the region.” and “We’ve been saying, as we’ve talked about missile defense in Europe, that there is a real threat, and it seems to me the tests underscore that.”

So why would Iran try to portray itself as an aggressive military power at a time when the world is watching it, a world already manipulated by media to believe it a danger? My guess would be it’s the only defense tactic they can muster in light of intelligence that a U.S./Israeli attack is immanent.

It is no secret that a "secret war" on Iran is already underway by the U.S. It is reported that with agreement, consent from the Democratic leadership, George Bush siphoned $400m out of other programs to run the covert operations.

Why are the U.S. and Israel so intent on attacking Iran as a matter of urgency? Their justifications regarding the country being a threat due nuclear weapons capability again seem so far removed from actual facts. Referring to recent reports, the first of which a U.S. National Intelligence Estimate document, describes key judgments that include;

• We judge with high confidence that in fall 2003, Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program.
• We assess with moderate confidence Tehran had not restarted its nuclear weapons program as of mid-2007, but we do not know whether it currently intends to develop nuclear weapons.
• We judge with high confidence that Iran will not be technically capable of producing and reprocessing enough plutonium for a weapon before about 2015.

Secondly -
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Iran Report – 26 May 2008, although containing some reservations and concerns, also states that;

• Between 28 January and 16 May 2008, Iran fed a total of approximately 19 kg of UF6 into the 20-machine IR-1 cascade, the single IR-2 centrifuges, the 10-machine IR-2 cascade and the single IR-3 centrifuges at PFEP. All nuclear material at PFEP, as well as the cascade area, remains under Agency containment and surveillance.
• The results of the environmental samples taken at FEP and PFEP indicate that the plants have been operated as declared. [4] The samples showed low enriched uranium (with up to 4.0% U-235), natural uranium and depleted uranium (down to 0.4% U-235) particles. Iran declared enrichment levels in FEP of up to 4.7% U-235. Since March 2007, fourteen unannounced inspections have been conducted.

Perhaps the urgency for a military strike can be found in reports that Iran is close to acquiring a Russian produced SA-20 surface-to-air missile defense system which would disturb plans for an Israeli attack.

So Israel needs to attack Iran before it can defend itself, ok. Both Israel and the U.S. have been playing each other over who wants to attack more but despite the rhetoric coming from both sides, an Israeli diplomatic official recently told The Jerusalem Post that as the debate rages in Washington, it was clear that Israel would be unable to take military action without a green light from the U.S.

We would need to fly through airspace controlled by the U.S. (Iraqi airspace). The official said also that Israel would need U.S. diplomatic cover to deal with the world's condemnation, and possibly even sanctions, in the aftermath of a raid. link

Why the actual need for an attack though? It would seem its all about control, another source reports: Israel is thought to be more concerned about the reinforcement that a nuclear Iran would give to its influence in the region and to groups allied with it – such as Hizbollah in Lebanon – than about an actual nuclear strike on Israel. link

For many decades, Israel has employed military “pre emptive strikes” as an official defence force strategy. Only last September, they bombed a site in Syria said by US officials to have contained a nuclear reactor built with the help of North Korea.

Incidentally, former US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld who not only armed Saddam Hussein, was also on the board of the Swiss company ABB when they sold the nuclear reactors to North Korea.

Certainly there is much evidence in general that Israel does not fear a nuclear strike by Iran. In an interview from video at therealnews.com, Israeli Military Historian Dr Martin van Creveld says “They know very well that to attack Israel is suicide. In fact it is the fastest way to put an end to a 5000 year old civilisation. They will be deterred by Israel just as nuclear deterrence has worked everywhere else in the world without one exception since 1945.”

Hang on, is Dr Creveld suggesting that Israel is nuclear armed and therefore begging to attack Iran in order to prevent them from attaining equal status?

The short answer is; Yes. It’s another amazing quirk that when ever western media references Israel’s nuclear armament it does so using the pretext “rumored”.

Israel has never signed the Nuclear Non proliferation Treaty and has never admitted that it has nuclear weapons. As the Israeli journalist Michael Karpin once wrote, the United States has gone along with this charade because acknowledging the existence of Israel's nuclear arsenal would incite futile demands by Arabs and Iranians to get rid of it.

The 35th president of the U.S. urged Israel not to build the bomb. JFK even sent U.S. inspectors into the Dimona reactor starting in 1961. But Israeli nuclear leaders outfoxed the inspectors, and Washington's resolve faded with Kennedy's death. By Nov. 1966, Israel had the capability to detonate a nuclear device.

In 1967, shortly after the Six-Day War, a key CIA official was told that Israel probably had the bomb; the CIA relayed this information to L.B. Johnson (36th president), but the secretaries of defense and state were kept out of the loop.

Lyndon Johnson, a member of the Disciples of Christ, blessed the enterprise at least in part out of biblical appreciation of the covenant between God and the children of Israel.

Johnson was influenced by an inscription his grandfather wrote in the family photo album: "Take care of the Jews, God's chosen people . . . help them any way you can."

It is debatable who poses the greatest threat of nuclear devastation to the world, Israel or the U.S.A. The fore mentioned Dr Martin van Creveld in 2003, believed that the Al-Aqsa Intifada then in progress, threatened Israel's existence and said "I consider it all hopeless at this point. ... We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen, before Israel goes under."

He was of course referring to the infamous Israeli “Samson Option” derived in namesake from a biblical story. Samson, an Israelite with divine strength, was betrayed by his wife Delilah, a Philistine. The Philistines cut off Samson’s hair thus robbing him of strength and imprisoned him. Samson repented his sins, his hair grew back and so did his strength unbeknown to the Philistines. At an assembly of the Philistines with Samson on show, Samson uttered “Let my soul die with the Philistines” and with that he pushed apart the temple pillars collapsing it, killing all the Philistines but also himself.

You will find in most texts mentioning the Samson Option that they are nearly always written from the point of view that Israel alludes to nuking the enemy specifically in a last dying act of retaliation. However there are rumours that the option is far more sinister and that Israel has its nukes pointed in all directions with the attitude, if we are to die then so shall the rest of the world. “We have the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that that will happen, before Israel goes under."

Ultimately it’s no more or less a nuclear threat than what persisted all through the Cold War. If strikes from either side had launched it would have been game over for us all. Many people seem blissfully unaware however that even a localised nuke attack anywhere on Earth would probably have the same consequences. It only takes around eight war heads detonating in any location to set of a nuclear winter capable of killing all life forms around the globe.

Louis René Beres who chaired Project Daniel, a group advising former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, argued that the effective deterrence of the Samson Option would be increased by ending the policy of nuclear ambiguity. He recommended Israel use the Samson Option threat to “support conventional preemptions” against enemy nuclear and non-nuclear assets because “without such weapons, Israel, having to rely entirely upon non nuclear forces, might not be able to deter enemy retaliations for the Israeli pre-emptive strike.”

In the 1990 Gulf War, on the second day of the American invasion, Saddam Hussein fired eight Scud missiles at non combatant Israel. Two of the conventionally armed missiles landed on Tel Aviv. Then Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir responded by ordering mobile missile launchers armed with nuclear weapons moved into the open and deployed facing Iraq.

“The Samsonesque strongman of the Middle East had stirred” - Seymour Hersh. Promising Patriot missile batteries and loads of future aid, the United States pressured Israel to keep cool.

If we browse further back in time to conflicts of this region, it was the U.S. that had its finger on the nuke trigger. In the 6 day war of 1967 when Israel obliterated Egypt’s air force, the USS Liberty was suddenly ordered from South Africa to waters outside the Gaza Strip. This vessel was essentially an unarmed spy ship which America’s ally Israel, for reasons that can not be explained, attacked repeatedly. If you watch the videos (Israel attacks the USS Liberty – parts 1 to 7) at the stink links page, you may get the impression that the action was a “false flag” exercise with the consent of U.S. officials and aimed at justifying the incineration of Cairo.

Despite Israel being aware of the Liberty’s identity, position and purpose, it attempted to sink the ship killing 34 servicemen, using unmarked fighter jets and water craft. A near by U.S naval fleet launched two of its own fighter jets, armed with nukes they headed for Cairo to launch a strike as they had been led to believe the Liberty attack was orchestrated by Egypt. Within only about one minute away from firing the nukes, pilots were ordered to abort. Why was this unspeakable act averted? It would seem that the only answer can be found in the timely realization by U.S officials that a Russian spy ship was witnessing the whole event.

The USSR at the time was a major supporter of Egypt. This is where things get really fucked up. Israel ally to America was fighting Arabs including Egypt, allied by Russia. What’s wrong with that you ask apart from Israel attacking its own ally’s ship? Well the thing is that the former Soviet Union’s ruling Bolshevik was originally, overwhelmingly comprised of Jews. World Youth Day Police State 2008

In what has become the “norm” whenever any freak show rolls into an Australian town, citizens of NSW will find themselves under the imposition of a Police State for Catholic World Youth Day 2008. This follows on from similar population control measures in the great APEC circus of 2007.

When Pope Benedict XVI, affectionately known to many as the Rottweiler, visits Sydney for World Youth Day in July, anyone wishing to protest this event and or the Catholic Churches policies in general will be effectively censored from doing so.

The NSW Government has seen fit to enact special laws for the event on its own initiative, bypassing the normal parliamentary processes for such legislating.

The regulations were gazetted on June 25, declaring many Sydney area locations as “a World Youth Day declared area”. Within declared areas an authorised person (not police only) may direct any other person to cease engaging in conduct that causes annoyance or inconvenience to pilgrims. Failure to comply with a directive can result in arrest and a fine of up to $5,500.

Note – The words “cease engaging in conduct that causes annoyance or inconvenience” should technically leave the public free to instigate as many annoyances or inconveniences as they wish providing they cease upon direction.

The declared zones encompass near half of Sydney, they include Sydney Opera House, Royal Botanic Gardens, The Domain, Hyde Park, Central Station, Darling Harbour, Centennial Parklands, Randwick Racecourse and Sydney Harbour Bridge to name a few. For the full list visit this link

So why would people want to protest against this gathering of Catholics or the Catholic Church in general? Apart from the obvious, 2000 years of persecution by the Christian faith upon anyone who dare not fear their vengeful God; there are a few specific and relevant issues of conjecture, such as the $22m Federal Government donation towards funding the event. This obscene waste of public money was one of the last bastard acts promised by the Howard Government in its last days on Earth but has been honoured by current Government. In addition the NSW state Gov will shell out a whopping $86m for event costs such as extra transport and police.

Another matter of discontent amongst various community members is the Catholic Church’s homophobic doctrine and more specifically it’s banning of a gay Catholic group forum from the youth festival. Protest action in defiance of more stupid Church doctrine apposing safe sex advocacy also plans to hand out condoms.

With the NSW Gestapo legislating annoyances and inconveniences in declared areas to be criminal offences under the guise of safety measures, I hope to see thousands outraged and protesting their right to protest.

The so called “safety measures” for WYD are little more than another instance of preconditioning the Australian populus towards the acceptance of imposed martial law whenever Government choses it desirable. It’s the “New World Order” encroaching. This is no whacky conspiracy theory.

I recently browsed a very interesting U.S. Army field manual titled Foreign Internal Defence Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for Special Forces (FM 31-20-3) . The publication was produced under the watch of President old man Bush (a key architect of the NOW) who said at the time “even as the threat of East-West conflict may be diminishing in the new era, lower order threats like terrorism, subversion, insurgency, and drug trafficking are menacing the United States.”

FM 31-20-3 advises that Current U.S. policy is to deal with these threats through the indirect use of military force in concert with the political, informational, and economic elements of national power. It proceeds to define internal defence and development (IDAD) as the full range of measures taken by a nation to promote its growth and protect itself from subversion, lawlessness, and insurgency.

Although clearly the defence tactics outlined are largely written with violent militant insurgency in mind, it’s scary just how comprehensively these guidelines are being implemented in so called democracies against citizens by their own Governments. You can view the entire pdf manual here.

The document is 219 pages in entirety, a bit of a choir so I have pasted key excerpts of text below which really grabbed my attention.

FID is essentially apolitical activity. Every act, from military activities to a casual “off-duty” conversation has a political impact.

All operations and activities in a FID environment will have significant psychological effects. Some operations and activities may be conducted specifically to produce a desired psychological effect. A tactical victory may be totally negated or overshadowed by negative psychological effects. Recognizing that perceptions may be more important than reality in this arena, SF must ensure all audiences understand SF operations. Loss of control of perceptions may cause distortion of the facts and may diminish and/or destroy the gains of even the best planned and executed operations.

- Note to aspiring insurgents -

To win, the insurgency must have a program that explains what is wrong with society and justifies its insurgent actions. It must promise great improvements after the government is overthrown. The insurgency uses ideology to offer society a goal.

The role the U.S. military play in the overall effort of the U.S. government to help a nation free or protect its society from an existing or potential insurgent threat is referred to as FID. U.S. FID operations work on the principle that it is the inherent responsibility of the threatened government to use its leadership and organizational and materiel resources to take the political, economic, and social actions necessary to defeat subversion, lawlessness, and insurgency.

U.S. military support to FID should focus on assisting Host Nations in anticipating, precluding, and countering threats or potential threats.

An insurgency relies on secrecy and surprise to conceal itself and to overcome the HN government’s superiority in military power and other resources.

To defeat an insurgency, the HN government must retain or regain the confidence and support of its people. The objective of an IDAD program is not to kill or even capture the insurgents. It is to convince them to abandon a hopeless or worthless cause and support the HN government.

Clandestine insurgent activity may be extensive in urban areas. When military forces reinforce police in an urban area, they must closely control and coordinate their operations to minimize collateral damage and prevent hostile propaganda victories that occur when U.S. or HN military forces overreact to insurgent actions. As a result, the need for PSYOP and Civil Affairs support greatly increases in urban areas.

Notice - Insurgents use "propaganda" U.S. forces use "PSYOP" (psychological operations)

In Unconventional Warfare, U.S. forces foster and/or support insurgencies against an established government. These operations are characterized by their low visibility, covert, and clandestine nature.

Interesting, when U.S. forces foster and or support insurgencies it's known as "Unconventional Warfare" according to this counter insurgency tactical manual.

In COIN operations (counter insurgency), command and staff action emphasizes detailed coordination and direction of the intelligence collection effort. These actions take place by:

• Coordinating with HN and U.S. intelligence agencies and HN regular and paramilitary forces.

• Using combat forces and EW intelligence elements to include radar and remotely monitored sensors and other technical surveillance systems.

• Using local people in the development of intelligence collection systems.

• Systematically and thoroughly interrogating prisoners and suspects.

Tactical COIN operations reduce the insurgent threat or activity in the area and provide a favourable environment for the HN’s IDAD program.

Civil-Military Operations - focus on the indigenous infrastructures and population in the operational area. Successful CMO will support the development of favourable attitudes, feelings, or behaviour among the populace toward the HN’s IDAD projects.

Populace and Resources Control

In most instances, the general desire of most of the public is to be left alone to earn a livelihood and to conduct its normal affairs. An effective PSYOP program can exploit this desire for normalcy and direct popular feeling against the insurgents. If the insurgents win popular support among the majority of the populace, the HN government’s military successes are irrelevant.

PSYOP are essential to the success of PRC. For maximum effectiveness, a strong psychological operations effort is directed toward the families of the insurgents and their popular support base. The PSYOP aspect of the PRC program tries to make the imposition of control more palatable to the people by relating the necessity of controls to their safety and well-being.

PSYOP efforts also try to create a favourable national or local government image and counter the effects of the insurgent propaganda effort. The government informs the population that the PRC measures may cause an inconvenience but are necessary due to the actions of the insurgents.

Rights on the legality of detention or imprisonment of personnel (for example, habeas corpus) may be temporarily suspended. PRC measures can also include curfews or blackouts. Checkpoints, searches, roadblocks; surveillance, censorship, and press control; and restriction of activity that applies to selected groups (labour unions, political groups and the like) are further PRC measures.

In countries where government authorities do not have wide latitude in controlling the population, special or emergency legislation must be enacted. This emergency legislation may include a form of martial law permitting government forces to search without warrant, to detain without bringing formal charges, and to execute other similar actions.

PSYOP can support the mission by discrediting the insurgent forces to neutral groups, creating dissension among the insurgents themselves, and supporting defector programs. Divisive programs create dissension, disorganization, low morale, subversion, and defection within the insurgent forces.

The Intelligence Cycle

Security forces can induce individuals among the general populace to become informants.

Security forces use various motives (civic-mindedness, patriotism, fear, punishment avoidance, gratitude, revenge or jealousy, financial rewards) as persuasive arguments.

Surveillance, the covert observation of persons and places, is a principal method of gaining and confirming intelligence information. The basic procedures include mechanical observation (wiretaps or concealed microphones), observation from fixed locations, and physical surveillance of subjects. Whenever a suspect is apprehended during an operation, a hasty interrogation takes place to gain immediate information that could be of tactical value.

If propaganda is a major part of the insurgent effort in the area, a current propaganda and PSYOP file should contain all the pertinent literature, background material, propaganda speeches, and analyses of local grievances the insurgents are exploiting. A local personality and organization file is maintained on each insurgent personality.

Alternative intelligence-gathering techniques and sources, such as doppelganger or pseudo operations, can be tried and used when it is hard to obtain information from the civilian populace. These pseudo units are usually made up of ex-guerrilla and/or security force personnel posing as insurgents.

Before such a unit can be properly trained and disguised, however, much information about the appearance, mannerisms, and security procedures of enemy units must be gathered. Most of this information comes from defectors or reindoctrinated prisoners.
